Beware of Settling Jack and Slip Notches that some companies supply!
Your logs will still be green and will shrink and settle even after construction which is a threat to the structural integrity of your home and WILL cost you more in maintenance later on!
Can your log home be built anywhere?Yes! Packages are able to be sent all over the country and overseas. I can handle the logistics for delivery and shop around for you to find the best price.
Do insects get in your home? No, The stain supplied for your logs contains an insect deterrent. Your land surrounding the home will be treated as well.
Is a log home more susceptible to fire damage and destruction? No! In fact, log homes are more fire-resistant than regular stick built homes. Logs are too compact to have any oxygen in order to spread a fire and also once the outside of a log is charred, the char itself acts as a fire retardant so the log will not burn through. One study even suggests that it takes over three hours to burn a log home to the point where the structural integrity would be compromised. How much does it cost to build a log home? The cost of building a log home is comparable to a brick home, but understandably more than a vinyl siding or mobile home if it is done in "Turn Key" fashion. Many customers choose to participate in the building process at some point in time, whether it be for flooring, electrical work, or simply installing their cabinets themselves.
How well insulated are log homes compared to conventional "stick built" homes?Kiln dried log walls outperform an R-15 conventionally framed wall. Because logs hold high "thermal mass," they can heat and cool as much as 25% better than conventional construction. Additionally, our windows and doors are all double paned, Low-E, and argon gas filled to improve energy efficiency.
